Edgar Bundy, ARA, RI RBA

Born 29th March 1862 at Brighton. Edgar Bundy had no formal training but learned some of his craft at the studio of Alfred Stevens. He specialised in historical paintings in oil and watercolour and portrayed his subjects in a very detail and narrative style, a genre which was very popular in Edwardian times. Edgar Bundy exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy from 1881 and at the Paris Salon in 1907. His painting ‘The Morning of Sedgemoor’ depicting the Duke of Monmouth’s rebels resting in a barn before the battle hangs in the Tate Gallery.

Bundy was elected R.I. and R.O.I. in 1891, A.R.A. in 1915. He died in London on 10th January 1922.

Infulences in Bundy’s work include Pre Raphlaelites such as John Millais, William Morris and the works of John Ruskin.
