'Standing Woman', Original Bonded Marble Sculpture, £545
A classical slant on the bronze sculpture of 'The Standing Woman'. Here the material of bonded marble (a composite material in which natural Carrara marble powder is mixed with a resin) bears a near identical resemblance to the original hand carved statue. The texture and features are duplicated and the color is a consistent ivory white.
Jeff Childs was born in London and moved to Nottingham with his parents at the age of 10.
Jeff's aesthetically beautiful bronzes are unashamedly classical. Inspired by the great sculptors, Michelangelo, Bernini and Rodin, his female forms capture energy, sensuality and character.
Working alongside his models, Jeff encourages them to bring their unique perspective and creative input to the work. This contributes to the shaping of both the pose and the sculpture's enduring character, so that the model has a much more active role than the popular notion of the passive and detached female presence in the studio.
Every stage of the process is handcrafted, from the original sculpture, built upon a handmade metal armature, to the mould making, casting and final patination. This creative endeavour ensures that every piece acquires its own individual characteristics, becoming a truly unique creation within its own select limited edition.
