Colin Hay
Colin Hay graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1970. From 1970 to 1980 he has worked as a freelance illustrator producing science fiction book cover illustrations for the major publishers of the time including books by Arthur C Clarke, John Wyndham and Isaac Asimov. Many of the illustrations were sold to publishers all over the world.
Painting mainly in oils and acrylic, Colin's influences are Picasso, Matisse, Cezanne, Miro, Dali, de Kooning, Klee and Bacon.
Colin's committment to painting has not prevented him from extending his talents as an amateur musician/songwriter under the crazy name of Boris Boogaloo. His blues CDs have been used in surfing videos and several music tracks played on BBC2.
Closeness of Bodies
"Which is more sensuous the line or the colour?"
Both these paintings started out as simple compositions in grey and black. I was trying to recreate the sensual/erotic power where two bodies touch.
A few years later I reworked them using colour to increase the erotic charge.
