Frank Lewis Emanuel
Born in London in 1865, Frank Lewis Emanuel was a painter, printmaker and writer. After attending the Slade School of Art from the late 1880's he began to show at the Royal Academy and Paris Salon.
Emanuel was well travelled and as an examiner for the Royal Drawing Society he visited Europe, Africa and Ceylon.
It was on a visit to St Ives in 1912 where he was inspired to create many of his more well known works.
Emanuel exhibited at the Royal Academy every year for over 40 years. The Tate Gallery holds his picture 'Kensington Interior'. He died in 1948 at the age of 83.
