Giuseppe Archidiacono
Giuseppe Archiacono comes from a family of artists and is an important artist in the history of Maltese Art.
LIving in Malta, the sea was a great inspiration to the artist. With his strikingly colourful sailing boats, seashores and sweeping seas, combined with his figurative scenes of a solitary woman walking along the beach, and other human images, his paintings often expressed poetic reflections of life.
Giuseppe's abstract patchwork-style is executed in a variety of Mediterranean colours. For the Maltese artist the strong light so typical of Malta and the deep shadows of large expanses of plain stone walls created dynamic contrasts that only watercolours could offer.
With his eye for detail and through the use of both ‘dry’ brush and ‘wet’ brush techniques, Archidiacono produces several overlapping layers of translucent watercolours to recreate the delicate textures of the Maltese landscape.
