Colin Hay
Colin Hay graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1970. His main career has been graphic design and illustration. From 1970 to 1980 he worked as a freelance illustrator producing science fiction book cover illustrations for the major publishers of the time including books by Arthur C Clarke, John Wyndham and Isaac Asimov. Many of the illustrations were also sold to publishers all over the world. In the past few years some of the original artworks have been sold to collectors in Sweden, Canada and New Zealand.
In 1990 Colin began to easel paint in acrylic, mainly on canvas. His influences are Picasso, Matisse, Cezanne, Miro, Dali, de Kooning, Klee and Bacon. Between 2006 and 2007 he participated in mixed exhibitions plus a one man show at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Edinburgh.
Colin's commitment to painting has not prevented him from extending his talents as an amateur musician/songwriter under the crazy name of Boris Boogaloo whose blues CDs have been used in surfing videos and a track played on BBC2.
Closeness of Bodies
"Does this mean line is more sensuous than colour?"
"Both these paintings (a pair) started out as simple composition in grey and black. I was trying to recreate the sensual/erotic power at the point where two bodies touch. A few years later I re-worked them using colour to increase the erotic charge."
