Catherine Cavallo
Catherine Cavallo was born in Malta on 8th April, 1963.
In 1981, aged 18, she went to England to study Fine Arts/Oil Painting at the City & Guilds of London Art School graduating four years later with a First Class Honours Diploma.
Catherine spent a total of eight years in London, during which she became more and more influenced by the sombre moods and colours of city life. This reflected in her earlier paintings of the period.
In 1990 she returned to Malta seeking her natural environment and turned towards the sea and typical Maltese countryside for stimulation in producing several sea and landscapes.
In 1992 she went to Italy where the native hues and colours of the Tuscan countryside were brought out in her vibrant paintings of this particularly scenic corner of Italy.
In 1995 Catherine returned to her native Malta.
In 1996 she was commissioned by Maltapost to do two stamps for the Europa set entitled "Famous Women" -Mabel Strickland and Inez Soler.
Catherine exhibits regularly and has worked on numerous commissions including four wine labels for Delicata Wines and a portrait for the Former Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr Sidney Gatt. In 2008 she was commissioned by Marsovin to do the labels for the 1919 red and white wine.
